"Violent media is good for kids" Critical response.

In "Violent media is good for kids" Gerard Jones argues that violent media is good for kids and he explain why. He says that it helped him and others.

Altough Jones acknowledge in paragraph 3 that comics contain "lofty messages of pacifism and tolerance", he states that it was the violence that was good for him. The characters of the comics were not normal people, they were superheroes. His favorite was the incredible hulk, who helped Jones to overcome his own fears.

Jones explains about a psychologist with a P.H.D named Melanie Moore. She studied teenagers for 3 years about how they react with violent media. She says that "Children need violent entertainment in orden to explore the inescapable feelings that they've been taught to deny, and to reintegrate those feelings into a more whole, more complex, more resilient selfhood" This is a good reference for his article and gives a powerful evidence.

In recent news, Nikolas Cruz, a 19 year-old former student, opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School killing 17 people on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. In his social media account just 5 months prior, he stated, "I'm going to be a professional school shooter". I think that we have to think about the violent media that we are using.

Jones concluding statement: "When we try to protect our children from their own feelings and fantasies, we shelter them not against violence but against power and self-hood" shows the audience that we shelter our kids from their feelings being against violent media.
