College is a waste of time?

In my opinion, the thesis of this argument is that Dale Stephens believes that higher education is broken.

These are sentences that corresponds to Dale's thesis:

In the second paragraph, he says that he left college two months ago because it rewards conformity rather than independence, competition rather than collaboration, regurgitation rather than learning, and theory rather than application.
In the third paragraph, he tells that failure is punished instead of seen as a learning opportunity and that we think college as a stepping-stone to success rather than a means to gain knowledge.
In the fourth paragraph, he argues that college is expensive and that the cost of public university tuition is 3.6 times higher today than it was 30 years ago.
In the fifth paragraph, he says that fortunately there are productive alternatives to college.
In the sixth paragraph, the success of people who never completed or attend college makes us question whether what we need to learn is taught in school.

Refutation: Paragraph 9,10.

"Of course, some people want a formal education. I do not think that everyone should leave college, but I challenge my peers to consider the opportunity cost of going to class. If you want to be a doctor, going to medical school is a wise choice" (9)
"We who take our education outside and beyond the class-room understand how actions build a better world."

Conclusion statement: Paragraph 10
"We will change the world regardless of the letters after our names"

The author appeals to his audience in this essay by talking really negative thoughts about college and trying to convince them saying that you can be a successful person without studying. What the author achieves is that the audience wonders again if attending to college is worth it.

I disagree with the author because I think that is important to go to college.

  1. We were in agreement on everything except I didn't have paragraph 2 and he didn't have the second sentence in paragraph 6.
